Blackwood
Tennis Club Inc
Senior
tennis teams Coordinator’s Report
Annual
General Meeting
28th
March 2007
This
season we have had a group of 3 people from the senior teams to help pick teams
and organise the senior section of the club, including social events. The help has been greatly appreciated. I wish to thank Kate Nixon for organising
the ladies section of the club and Selwyn Child for helping with selection and
phoning players before the season started and again in January before matches
recommenced.
This
year the club had 3 teams in the finals and 2 have made it through to this
week’s Grand Final. Congratulations to
the Division 2 and Division 4 Green Men’s Only teams on reaching this week’s
Grand Finals against Denman and Happy Valley respectively. Also congratulations to the 5 Doubles team
on making the finals in the South Western Doubles Competition. I am sure that both teams in the Grand Final
would appreciate your support on Saturday.
It does not have to be for the whole afternoon, just a half an hour
would be great support.
Last
year there was a distinct improvement in player commitment and I am pleased to
say that this was evident from most players this season. However, there are a couple of players who
need to consider the impact of being regularly unavailable. You let down your team mates, the club and
yourself by constantly being unavailable.
I know what it is like to have conflicting interests, having coached
netball for the past 12 years and having to juggle practices, pre-season
competitions and early matches, with tennis club commitments. I may be “old fashioned”, however once a
commitment is given to anything I strongly believe you follow it through, not
pull out because you have football training and your tennis team is not going
to make the finals. What about all the
players underneath you, who have to move up and weaken their teams chances of
playing in the finals.
To
all the extra players, who helped us out over the year many thanks, in particular
Emily Lundborg, who played and won matches in Division 3 and Division 1.
It
is hoped that the club can attract more ladies to play seniors, particularly in
the higher grades. It would be great to
have a mixed team in every Division. In
this way the club can offer every player a reasonable standard of competition.
In
closing, thank you again to this year’s helpers, particularly Kate and Selwyn,
to the Management Committee for their support and to the players. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed playing at
Blackwood and will be back again next year.
If you want to help with team selection, social events or just generally
help there is a spot for you at the club.
We are always grateful to have volunteers.
