Junior Report 2008/09

The 2008 winter season saw us nominate 4 Junior Teams, boys Division 5 & 11 and Girls Division 3 & 8. After 14 minor rounds the boys division 5 were 6th and division 11 were 7th.

Girls Division 3 were minor premiers and division 8 were 7th. The division 3 girls then went on to win the Grand Final.

All teams were competitive and most players continued on to play summer tennis. Thank you to all players, team co-ordinators and parents.

Paul Nicholas

Junior Winter Co-ordinator

We had 45 girls in 9 teams for our summer 2008/09 season.

Four teams made it to the finals and our Div 1 girls team is in the Grand Final this week.

Thank you to Robyn Gill and Bessy Sladojevic for helping out with the girls on Saturday mornings.

We had 55 boys in 11 teams this summer season. 7 of those teams made it through to the finals and 4 of those 7 teams will be competing in the Grand Final this weekend, Division’s 2, 3, 4 & 9.

We would like to wish all of the teams the very best of luck and know that they will show great sportsmanship and represent the Blackwood Tennis Club proudly.

Thank you to John Collett, Peter Blacket, Rob Hayes, Ian Furness, Richard Ellis and many others who have helped with BBQ duties throughout the season.

Thank you to the non member girls and a boy who helped out filling in for teams when needed.

We again ran our Junior Club Tournament and although our numbers were down on previous years it was still a very successful tournament and we thank the players who did make the effort to support the events. Thank you to all the sponsors who again provided the winners, runners-ups and all players with some great trophies and prizes.

Thank you to our coaches Jeff Fisher and Peter Broughton who have again put in many hours coaching our Juniors. Club coaching was again offered to all players and I think each year more players are taking advantage of this opportunity. I feel certain that the success we have achieved this year especially in our higher grades e.g. Div 1 girls and Div 2, 3 & 4 boys all making the Grand Final has had a lot to do with the fact that almost all of the players from these teams have attended club coaching throughout the entire season.

Thank you to Jeff who has also helped each week with the selection and organising of the teams

To all the Juniors from Blackwood who participated in the SDTA Inter Association teams thank you being prepared to participate and represent our club at Association level. Also to all the players from Blackwood who participated in the SDTA Junior Tournament that was held prior to Xmas well done and congratulations to those players who were successful in their events.

Thank you to Ian Furness who has again entered all of the Blackwood Tennis Club Junior results for the Association. This is a very important role that Ian has and I know does take quite a lot of time each weekend.

To Garry and the committee thank you again for the wonderful support given to the Juniors at Blackwood. Thank you to the parents and carers of the Juniors who get them to the club each week and make themselves available to take their turn as Supervisors and also on the canteen roster.

Our wind-up again this year was a great night, however not quite as warm as we would have liked, but never the less it was good to see so many of our Juniors and their parents having such a good time.

Thank you to Paul Nicholas for his attendance at a number of the SDTA Junior Activities meetings as our representative.

On behalf of Eric and myself Good luck to all teams competing in Grand Finals this weekend in both Juniors and Seniors and thank you to any one who has helped in any way at all throughout the season to make our job a little easier. We both get great satisfaction from being involved with the Blackwood Juniors and can only encourage other parents/carers to become involved in some way so that you may also have the opportunity to experience that same satisfaction and pleasure.
